Learning and Growing

Dear Friends,TGIF MARCH Challenges-005

I am a huge advocate of life-long learning.  Whether it’s cardmaking, baking, relationships, or any other aspect of our lives, if we’re not growing, we’re stagnant. To challenge myself and help develop my cardmaking skills, continual practice is the key for me. Another tool is card sketches. You’ll notice I try to do at least one a week. I do them to challenge myself and help learn new ways of doing things. The card sketch I used today was a challenge for me.

It seemed so simple, so I was surprised. Maybe it was because my mojo was gone?  For whatever reason, I struggled.  And with struggle comes learning and growth, so if you’re like me, keep at it! The more cards I make, the easier it is to make something beautiful.  The sketch I used today is from TGIF Challenges #TGIFC46.  Give it a try and send me a link to your card!

To make the card, I used an overlay of velum. Velum is under-rated, isn’t it?  It can make a huge impact on a card, softening the colors and creating fun effects. The vellum I used is from Sale-a-bration, so it was free.  Free is always good 🙂

If you look closely, you’ll see some coral and gold thread under the “dear friend banner” I unraveled some thick baker’s twine for the coral. The gold is washi tape (free again with Sale-a-bration).

I hope you’ll give sketches a try.  Let me know if you think they help you improve your card making skills.  Above all, enjoy every minute of time you have to paper craft.  After all, that’s why we do it.
