Making the Jar of Love Glow

Isn’t it awesome when we buy a stamp set that we use again and again and again? If you’re like me and enjoy getting some bang for you buck, check out the Jar of Love collection. These cute jars can be filled with anything! If you’ve seen my previous post, you know that they make great shaker cards, too!

For my card today, I wanted to fill my jar with fireflies. I have great memories of fireflies from my childhood. When I was very small, watching them move through the cool summer nights would fill me with delight. I caught a few in a jar similar to the one below.

Making the Jar of Love Glow

My challenge in creating this card was to figure out how to make the fireflies glow in their jar. I went through several sheets of paper and some failed attempts as I tried different inks and accessories, but that’s how we learn, right? I actually love it when that happens since you get to learn from my boo-boos and save some time!

To make the effect shown in the card, I used Whisper White craft ink and a sponge. Gotta love sponges. They are the best bang for you buck since they only cost $3.50 and you can use and reuse them forever. They make such a statement on cards, don’t they?

With your sponge, lightly dip into the white craft ink and then sponge onto dark card stock to form little circles. Keep sponging until the ink is a bit dispersed. It sounds harder than it is. Give this a try on some dark scrap paper so you get the feel for how much ink to pull up from the ink pad, and how to spread it evenly. Such a fun effect, isn’t it?

In real life, the card sparkles. The fireflies are colored in with gold Wink of Stella. I also splattered  gold stella onto the card. I brought in more gold with the sentiment embossed onto to the card, gold thread, and gold ribbon.

Isn’t the Jar of Love stamp set versatile? On my team, we’re showing each other the different cards we’ve made with the stamp set. Each card that’s been shared has been so different. It’s fun to see what everyone’s come up with. I hope you give this stamp set a chance. You’ll love it!
