Ombre Butterfly Card

Today I have a fun card for you that’s simple and sweet. The card uses Ombre to make a statement. The card is simple, but the ombre effect makes it special. The cool thing about using ombre is that the effect is so striking, that the stamping does not need to be complicated.

Creating Ombre with Card Stock

In my post this past Friday (click here to see it), I explained that ombre is when a colors fade from dark to light. There are so many ways of doing this! I wanted to show several samples. On Friday, I showed sponging. My card today shows that you can use card stock to create the effect.

There are many punches and framelits available in the crafting industry today. Even a simple punch (such as a circle or heart) would look absolutely stunning when putting different shades of the same color together and cascading them down the card.

My card shows butterflies down the left. You could fill the whole card in punched images, or put several rows down the center. The possibilities are endless and whatever you choose to do, it will look stunning.

I’ve found that for me, the hardest part of ombre is figuring out which colors to use. Definitely play with your colors before gluing down anything. For this card, I used Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, and Watermelon Wonder.

Tip for Creating Ombre Cards using Cardstock

You’ll notice that even though I’ve only listed three colors above, the card actually has four colors. I have a trick to let you create a shade of ombre with ANY card stock you own. The trick is to use versmark.

In my video below, I share that if you first cover your card stock with versamark, and then cut it out, the card stock will be just a shade darker. This is a HUGE help if you don’t own a darker card stock in the exact shade that you need.

When making my card, I secured the sequins using liquid tombow ink. The butterflies are also glued to the sequins using tombow.

The sentiment is from the stamp set One Big Meaning.
