Fun Ombre Swirly Card

Anytime I use the swirls from the Swirly Bird stamp set, my card comes out looking so FUN!! I used this stamp set today since I wanted to give my card an ombre effect.

Purple Ombre

For my ombre effect, I used three shades of purple:

  • Wisteria Wonder
  • Perfect Plum
  • Elegant Eggplant

These purple shades went from light to dark, but I felt that the lightest, Wisteria Wonder, was perhaps a little too light. That’s when I got the idea to do ombre within ombre! LOL. I made a video of this card because the effect is subtle and you may not notice it right away when seeing the card.

To make the ombre on ombre effect, after cutting out the swirls, I sponged Wisteria Wonder on each of them. It created a subtle effect, moving the shade of each swirl from dark to light.

Gotta Have Sparkle

My favorite part of this card does not come through so well in the photo. Can you see the silver sparkle??? The sparkle adds a lot because the card is a bit dark and the subtle glimmer adds just enough to make the card have an more playful look to it.

In the video, I’ll show you all the details on how I made the sparkle!! I also have some tips below.

How to Create Tiny Splatters of Glitter

  1. First, protect your surface! I keep a plastic placemat in my stamping area that I use for these occasions.
  2. Next, mix liquid tombow glue with some water. I like to put this mixture in a small, round plastic lid leftover from a stamping accessory I’ve used up. When you’re done doing this technique, you can rinse out the lid and reuse it again.
  3. Using an inexpensive paintbrush (I always grab one from the kids), dip the brush into the watery glue. Hit the brush with your hand or bone folder to get it to splatter everywhere! (that’s the fun part!)
  4. If there are specific areas of the card that you want sparkle, we can do that, too. Turn the paint brush over to the hard tip (opposite side of the brush). Dip the tip into the watery glue and put a dab of the glue onto your project. Repeat as necessary.
  5. Add glitter to the card and shake off.
  6. Enjoy how beautiful it looks!

It’s a great technique and every time I’ve used it, I’ve LOVED the result. It adds so much beauty to our cards. I know once you do this once, you’ll be hooked.
