Learn How to Make a Pocket Card!

I am so excited about today’s project! Every year I take upon an important task. I make the cards for all the teachers in our kid’s small school. The cards mean SO MUCH to the teachers. They thank me, and then thank me again. And a few months later, again….It is amazing how much they appreciate my work! I also take the time to write EACH teacher an individual note, telling them why the students and parents appreciate them. It takes me forever, but as you can tell, it’s so worth it. The teachers should be earning more than investment bankers, in my opinion. I can’t give them the six-figure salary that they deserve, but I can tell them how much we all appreciate them.

We usually give them cash or gift certificates for their holiday gift, so I wanted a project with a pocket. I have a tutorial to show you exactly how to make the cards. It’s easy! I had to make it easy since I needed to make a lot of them. LOL.

I decorated the cards for Chanuakah using the candle from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set. The card is square and the finished size measures 4 x 4.

When you open it up, here’s how it looks on the inside:

The project is easy to make since I needed so many of them. Here’s how to make them:

Step 1: Cut the card stock to 8 x 5 1/2. I designed the cards so I could get two projects from one sheet of card stock.  This saved me some money since I had so many to make! If you’re making them in bulk, I suggest shaving 1/2 off the long side (as shown below), and then cut the card stock in half, at 5 1/2″.

Step 2: Score the card stock at 4″

Step 3: Turn the card stock and score again at 4″. See, you can’t mess it up!!! LOL.

Step 4: Trim off the left block. I like to trim on the outside of the score lines .

Step 5: This step is optional, but lovely. If you have a corner rounder, round the left corner pocket. This makes it look especially lovely when the pocket is done.

Step 6: You’ll want to us a strong adhesive, such as sticky strip or tombow, to adhere the pocket. Put the adhesive, as shown below, and bend up to form a pocket.

Step 7: If you’d like to decorate the inside of the card (with designer paper or white so you can wrote a message), cut the paper to 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″.

I hope you enjoy this project!! If you make it, please send me a picture. It was such fun to make and I’ve already given them to the teachers. I’ve gotten so many heartfelt thanks that my heart is swimming with joy. Isn’t it great to be a papercrafter? What a beautiful opportunity.

Love,
Rina
