Easiest Way to do Ombre

If you’ve wanted to try Ombre, I have the EASIEST way to do it! The card below was easy-peasy to create, and you can do it, too!

Ombre is Color Gradation

If you’re new to ombré, ombré is a color gradation effect where a shade (usually of one color, but it can also be multiple colors) goes from light to dark.

In the card above, I used stamp set, Work of Art. This stamp set is ideal for ombré!! When browsing pinterest with this stamp set in the search field, you will see lots of ideas for ombre using this set.

Also, follow me on pinterst (click here). I have an ombré board set up to inspire you, with all kinds of ombré item such as cards (of course!), home décor, clothing, etc. Ombré is a HOT trend right now, and it’s everywhere.

Just to share a funny story. Last night I was reading a book and the book cover was — ombré! It was a beautiful blue, light at the top and moving darker towards the bottom. I had to laugh. It’s everywhere!

Tips for Stamping Ombré

To create the ombré effect in the card, I first started with a dark color. Starting with a saturated, deep color is key for this technique!

Once you have the color, the rest is easy. I stamped first at the bottom, where I wanted the color to be the darkest. Without reinking I then stamped again above it. Without reinking again, I stamped the lightest color above. Ta da! An easy ombré effect!

I do want to caution you that this triple stamping technique works well with rubber stamps. I have not had success with it using photopolymer stamps. With photopolymer, when I stamp off the second time, most of the ink is already off the stamp and it doesn’t look right.

Below is my video different ways to achieve an ombré effect.

I have a special group set up on facebook and every month I post a new technique (I call it a challenge!) and people post pictures of cards they’ve made, using the technique. Of course, at the end of the month I choose a random winner and send her goodies in the mail! It’s so much fun. To join, click here.
