Crystal + Gold Chandelier = Love!

Do you love crystal chandeliers as much as I do? When I bought my first house, a chandelier was one of the first purchases I made. I really needed a sofa and a dining room table. Instead, my family and friends ate off a folding table. But when they come into my house, they were greeted by a gold and crystal chandelier. Priorities, right?

I still need a couch, BTW. But when I sit on the ancient sofa, I smile as I look at that sparkly chandelier! It was for sure the right decision! And it’s too high up for the kids to (generally) damage it, unlike the sofa.

Now that you know how much I love shiny things, it’s not surprising that the Builder Birdcage was in my first order of the Occasions catalog. To tell the truth, the stamp set had me at the bird cages. I thought they were so pretty. Then when I looked closer and saw the chandelier, I was hooked.

After I made the card and went upstairs, I laughed. No wonder I chose to emboss the chandelier in gold. That’s the color I have hanging up!

For today’s card, I wanted sheer elegance. I considered adding a pop of color, but in the end, I kept it at gold, black and white. Classic, right?

The Details

I started the card by embossing the chandelier in gold. I then cut out a scallop in gold foil. So pretty!

Next, I played with setting the stage. I added gold acetate paper as an accent (it’s called Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate, item number 141653). Next, the card needed more “oomph” so I added a classy design from the Pop of Pink DSP. I was so tempted to add some pink, too, but it really would have changed the look of the whole card, so I left it off.

Finally, I added some banners, using yummy free Sale-A-Bration ribbon (3/8″ metallic ribbon combo pack). After making the card I realized I accidentally put on the silver ribbon instead of the gold (you get both for free!) but it still looks nice. LOL.

Today’s Card

Today’s card is featured in my graphic for the Creative Challenge. It uses some new products in the Occasions catalog. I don’t know what I like more, the paper or the stamp. But, it doesn’t matter. LOL. Both are fun to use and make my stamping even enjoyable and fun.

The card uses the new stamp set, Builder Birdcage. It’s an interesting stamp set because it can be used in different types of stamping. You can make an incredibly elegant card with it, a cutesy card, or anything in between. You’ll see lots of different uses on my blog since I love the stamp set so much. It’ll get a ton of ink from my stamp room!

Tips and Tricks

The birdcages are stamped in Archival Gray ink. This is a little subtler than black and pairs nicely with the soft colors in the card.

I’m not a perfect cutter! After cutting out the bird cages, any areas that I missed which showed white I dipped into the Gray ink pad and filled in with Gray. This is totally not scientific and I didn’t use any tools. LOL. I just brushed the edges in the ink. Worked great and the bird cages look crisp over the purple paper.
The Succulent Garden paper marries nicely with this stamp set. The sample in the catalog also uses this paper with the stamp set.

I hope you join my Creative Challenge. It will be a ton of fun. There are lots of prizes and the Challenge is free! Come join me. Click here to learn more.
