How to Make Easy Pop Up Cards

I’ve always thought that Pop Up cards were fun. You open the card, expecting the usual, but instead something beautiful pops up. Whenever I saw pop ups, I thought it was complicated and not something that I wanted to create. However, I thought they were REALLY neat so one day when I was feeling adventurous, I gave it a try. I tried many different techniques, but then I came up with a method that was so easy, I was amazed. My mantra in life is “keep it simple.” This method definitely keeps it simple. I will show you how to make easy Pop Up cards. There’s a video in this post that takes you through each step of the process.

Making easy Pop Up cards

When trying a new technique, I always recommend using regular copy paper, first. This way, you won’t be nervous about wasting high quality paper and you can feel free to learn (and perhaps make mistakes.)

To make the pop up cards below, I carefully measured to make sure that everything would fit. But you really don’t have to, especially if you use copy paper for your first draft of the project.

Here’s my secret: I cut the inside of the card (just two cuts, it’s really easy — you’ll see in the video at the end of this post). To keep it simple and cover these cuts, I used a piece of card stock measuring the same dimension as the top of the card (5 1/2 x 4 1/4) and I glued it over top, hiding the areas I cut out. So EASY!!

From the outside, the cards look like a regular card, right? However, when you open it, you get a nice surprise. Here’s what you see:
