Fresh Fruit Looks Delicious

Of all the new wonderful paper in the Annual Catalog, my favorite is the Fruit Stand Designer Paper, which goes with the Fresh Fruit stamp set. I love the pastel colors that are mingled in with the bright red strawberry colored images. The peach images look especially delicious to me, and luckily, I am playing with this stamp set during peach season!

Fresh Fruit using Real Red

Usually, I’m not a red person. Either you are a red person, or you’re not. I’ve never met anyone who’s in the middle. I don’t own anything red. Not an article of clothing. Not a lipstick, not a handbag. I’m very much NOT a red person, but since the bright red in this paper is balanced so nicely by the pastels, I jumped into using red as my focal for the card. Isn’t it great how stamping can get us out of our comfort zone?

My card for today follows the sketch from the Paper Craft Crew. I followed their challenge number #204. Play along by clicking here: PCCC#204.

Challenges are meant to help you learn to create balance on a card, but they don’t need to be followed exactly. You may not have all the supplies you need to follow a sketch as shown, but never let that stop you! I used a round central image because I haven’t yet bought the oval framelits. I love how the round scallop looks because it loosely resembles a beautiful red fruit bowl.

I also changed things up for the right border images. Instead of straight lines, I tapered mine into banners. I love the look of banners and thought it added a lot to the card. I then added subtle effects of the random dots using So Saffron Ink.

Tips for creating the project:

  • To make the cluster of strawberries, I first created a mask by stamping a strawberry on copy paper. I then cut out the strawberry. To use the mask, I stamped another strawberry on whisper white, covered it up with the copy paper mask, and stamped again. Cute, no?
  • For the lemon, I used the 1 ¾ punch to quickly and easy punch out the image. You can also use the Layer Circles framelits.
  • The splatter is made with the a stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set. I used So Saffron ink since I wanted a subtle look to offset the bright red in other areas of the card.
  • The original sketch had three dots off to the left top of the card. I modified the sketch to add the three sequins randomly on the card, and I LOVE how it turned out. This is why I adore sketches. When well designed, they encourage you to add neat elements to your card.

Yummy Fresh Fruit

Of all the gorgeous stamp sets in the new catty, Fresh Fruit is one of my favs. I’m not sure what it is about the stamp set, but I ADORE it. I suspect my love of it has something to do with my personal ideology.

I’m a veg head.  There.  Now you know.

For about 5 years, we’ve been Pescatarian. No, that’s not a religion. (Actually, spell check doesn’t know what it is, either. LOL.) Pescatarians are like vegetarians, but we eat fish, too. I’m building up to be completely vegetarian, but I really really really love fish. We’re Pescatrarian because we hate the thought of animals dying so we can eat them. We also don’t approve of how animals are treated these days, with the crowding, overuse of antibiotics, etc.

Fresh fruit (and veggies :)) are always in my kitchen, since that’s what we cook with every day. This stamp set feels like home to me. It’s “me,” which makes me smile when I use it.

Fresh Fruit is also a great general stamp set. You can use it for any occasion. If you’re having an outdoor summer party, it would be an amazing stamp set for invitations. If you’re the guest at a party, you could use the stamp set to make thank you notes or other gifts. There are so many possibilities.

Doesn’t that pear look like you can take it off the card and take a bite out of it? The pear paper is also so cute! It goes so beautifully with the stamp set. I used the new doilies, too, and those are fun since they are small and fit on a card nicely. The bow is made with the new copper thread.  Lots of new on this card!
