Adding Bling to our Lives

After using the Irresistibly Floral paper last week, I couldn’t help myself from using it again! I love being able to create my own custom paper. Have you used it yet? If not, be warned, it is addicting!

Letting the Bling In

One of the things I love about stamping is the opportunity to be girly and use some bling. In my real life, I don’t get many opportunities. I dress seriously (I’m wearing almost all black today), my home is practical and elegant (nothing pink or blingy!), and my car is a classy shade of silvery…gray!

If you’re like me, and every part of your life is muted except for your artwork, let’s resolve to change it! I’m bringing the bling into every area of my life.

Do you have ideas on how to do this? If yes, please comment below! Here are some things I’ll be trying:

  • Wearing clothes with more colors I love (light blue, pink, purple. No more buying black!)
  • Buying home accents with bling. A picture frame studded with gems would be ideal!
  • Buying  costume necklaces with sparkle!

What will you do to bring your fun personality to your every day life? I’m so excited to get started. I can just see the smile on my face when I look in the mirror and see the bling!

Below is the card that has started the revolution. And for good reason! The card uses so many colors that I love. Being able to customize the paper means that I was able to throw any color that I love at it. I used Daffodil Delight, Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo (my absolute favorite color!), and Melon Mambo. And what a great effect! The yellows and pinks made a spectacular result.

I made the card by using sponges in the ink colors mentioned above. Sponges are my secret weapon. They are the cheapest tool in the catalog and they create such an amazing effect. Click here to pick up a package.

I loved the background paper and wanted an image that wouldn’t cover it up. I went with the Hello You Thinlits Dies. If you don’t have these thinlits yet, you’ll definitely want to think about getting them. I only got mine a few months ago and I don’t know why I waited so long. I’ve used them so many times. They are large, yet airy looking. They also offer a trendy, chic look to cards. They are a great tool to have on-hand.

For the sentiment, I used silver foil for a blingy effect (we’ve already talked about how much I love bling….)

Don’t the colors and the bling make you want to smile?

Let’s put these smiles in our lives every day. If you are reading this post and are like me, and only put these bright colors and sparkle in your artwork, let’s change that starting today! Can’t wait to see the new you.

Love,
Rina

My Own Irresistibly Floral Paper

One of my favorite new favorite designer series paper in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog is  Irresistibly Floral. It’s such a fun concept. You can use it as-is, which is a beautiful white color with shimmery white designs, or you can color it any way you like.

In the card above, the diamond shape pattern came from the Irresistibly Floral paper. I wanted to make a statement while also keeping it simple.

Here’s how the paper looks on its own, without coloring it:

My design process

I was inspired to use the paper because I’m following the Paper Craft Crew design challenge. For this challenge, we’re supposed to use paper in an interesting way. I therefore decided to use the most interesting paper I owned! Click here to follow the Paper Craft Crew sketch.

To start creating my design, I first went onto Pinterest where I’d saved several beautiful color inspiration palettes. To follow me on Pinterest, click here. Below is the palette I decided to use.

After deciding on my palette, I then re-interpreted the colors using the Stampin’ Up! inks that I own. I decided that the colors most resembled Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party, and Tempting Turquoise. I specifically chose a palette with a bright blue since I want to use more Tempting Turquoise. It’s a gorgeous color, but one I rarely reach for when making cards.

Because the of the color palette, my hard work was already done. To put the color on the paper, I used sponges for each of the 4 colors. Starting with the lightest color at the bottom, I worked my way up. I did run into a problem because the Blushing Bride did not show up well. To fix the problem, I simply shaved off the part of the card stock at the bottom that I felt was too light. I did keep a little bit at the very bottom to show some color gradation.

What fun! After I was done, I realized I’d made my very own custom piece of designer paper. First time ever!

For the rest of the card, I kept the design simple so that it wouldn’t detract from my lovely paper. I used the Crazy About You stamp set and using Flirty Flamingo, cut out a flower and added a few layers. Not much else was needed.

I hope that you give the Irresistibly Floral paper a try! There are infinite possibilities with it and its such fun to make your own custom paper to match your projects.
